Sweet and Lambertz Earn AGCO Jackson Nationals Titles During Exciting Night at Jackson Motorplex

Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (June 29, 2019) – Brad Sweet climbed atop his winged sprint car and offered a shout, a beaming smile and a slight flex after conquering the 41st annual AGCO Jackson Nationals on Saturday evening at Jackson Motorplex.

The prize for winning the crown jewel World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event hosted by Jackson Motorplex was a whopping $41,000. John Lambertz led all 20 laps to claim the Heartland Steel RaceSaver sprint cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids event title.

Sweet has been on a recent tear, winning four of the last five World of Outlaws races – including two of the three features during this year’s AGCO Jackson Nationals. He has now earned four victories in the last five races and his seven wins leads the series this season. The triumph on Saturday also gives Sweet two AGCO Jackson Nationals titles in the last three years.

“$41,000, that’s awesome,” Sweet exclaimed in Victory Lane. “These big money races are hard to win. We’ve had a good little run here. It’s been a lot of fun. We’re going to have some beer tonight and celebrate this one. This is what it’s all about is winning these races.”

Sweet was the polesitter for the 35-lap main event after winning the dash. However, Daryn Pittman rocketed to the top spot on the opening lap. Pittman led the first 10 laps before the first of two cautions brought the field back together for a restart. Pittman chose the outside lane for the double-file restart and Sweet made the bottom work, powering into the top spot by the time he reached turn one.

Sweet led the remainder of the race, but defending event champion Donny Schatz stayed within one second for the final two thirds of the feature after taking over second on Lap 12. The duo was nearly nose to tail for most of the race through traffic before a caution on Lap 30 gave Sweet open track for the final laps.

“We were there doing everything we could,” Schatz said. “That last yellow with five to go really killed us. We wanted to win, but some days you’re going to run second and some days you’re worse than that.”

Pittman placed third with David Gravel fourth and James McFadden fifth.

Schatz, Madsen, Jacob Allen and Brian Brown each won a heat race. Tim Shaffer earned the Last Chance Showdown win. Shaffer was also the Hard Charger Award winner after maneuvering from 21st to 10th in the main event.

The Heartland Steel RaceSaver sprint cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids A Main was just as exciting as Lambertz held off defending AGCO Jackson Nationals champion Kaleb Johnson for the triumph in a non-stop 20-lap main event.

Lambertz was glued to the bottom groove throughout the race with Johnson bouncing from the bottom to the top lane throughout traffic. Johnson momentarily took the lead on the top side in turn two with eight laps remaining, but Lambertz reclaimed the lead in turns three and four. His margin of victory was .413 of a second.

“I got a lucky draw,” he said after garnering the pole position. “The engine is still not running right. Hopefully we’ll get it figured out one of these days.”

Ballenger placed third with Jake Martens fourth as the top four drivers were separated by only 1.078 seconds. Ryan Voss rounded out the top five.

Jared Jansen and Brandon Bosma each won a heat race.

Jackson Motorplex will take next weekend off before resuming action on July 12 for New Fashion Pork Night featuring the DeKalb/Asgrow presents the Midwest Power Series and Midwest Sprint Touring Series 360 sprint cars, Heartland Steel RaceSaver sprint cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids and NSL non-wing sprint cars presented by HitchDoc.
